Help Save a Life with PulsePoint

The Medical Center has introduced the PulsePoint app to Warren County.

The free mobile app is saving lives in 1,100 communities across the nation, including our own. CPR-trained users are encouraged to download the app, which will alert them when a person in a nearby public place experiences a cardiac event and is in need of assistance.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths, killing about 1,000 people per day in the U.S. Nearly 60 percent of heart attack victims don't get CPR until professional help arrives, and for every minute that passes, SCA survival rates decrease by 7 to 10 percent.

Med Center Health is proud to sponsor PulsePoint in Warren County. The PulsePoint app alerts CPR-trained bystanders to a cardiac emergency in their immediate vicinity. They receive the alert at the same time as professional responders, but they might be closer to the victim.

PulsePoint directs users to the exact location of the emergency, as well as the closest Automated External Defibrillator (AED). CPR-trained bystanders can get to the scene and start CPR in the critical lifesaving minutes before Medical Center EMS arrives.

In addition to the life-saving CPR notifications, the app provides a current list of accident locations to which EMS is responding. Knowing the accident locations will save individuals drive time by being able to plan an alternate route and avoid being slowed in traffic tie-ups.
