The Medical Center provides Southcentral Kentucky with comprehensive surgical services allowing residents to stay close to home. Using state-of-the-art surgical technology, monitoring equipment and anesthesia, The Medical Center ensures quality surgical services are provided in modern facilities. The Surgery department is operational 24 hours a day 7 days a week to handle scheduled and emergency surgeries.
A variety of surgeries are performed by an experienced team of physicians, RNs, surgical technologists and ancillary support staff. These include:
- Ear, Nose & Throat
- Open Heart
- Orthopaedic, including Hand Surgery
- Vascular surgery
One to two weeks prior to surgery, patients come to PreAdmission Testing to meet with a nurse who obtains the patient's history, speak with a representative from the Anesthesia Department and complete any necessary lab work or x-rays.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit
Following surgery, patients are cared for in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Nurses will monitor the patient’s pain, surgical site, breathing, blood pressure, circulation and other areas. From there the patient is taken to a patient room if admitted to the hospital or discharged if it was an outpatient surgery.
