The miracle of childbirth maybe no event
in life equals the awesome beauty and wonder of a baby being born. It is a special time
that no one forgets. Before, during, and after childbirth, you want the
very best possible care for the baby and mother. The Medical Centers family-centered
maternity care unit provides excellent medical care in a very comfortable environment.
From the early weeks of pregnancy, through
childbirth, and after the mother goes home, The Medical Center will be there to help all
members of the family as they experience this special event.
The Medical Center has four areas that provide
family-centered maternity care: Labor and Delivery, Nursery, NICU (Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit), and Post Partum. Unlike other areas of the hospital, OB
has two primary patients – the mother and the baby. The relationship between the
expectant family and the OB staff starts long before the birth of the baby.
Various educational classes are held throughout the pregnancy including Lamaze,
breast-feeding, and classes for siblings.
Labor and Delivery is the next step. The Medical Center has nine labor,
delivery and recovery rooms. Once the baby is delivered, the mother is moved to
one of 18 private rooms in Post Partum. Here, the nursing staff concentrates on
teaching the mother how to take care of herself and the newborn. The staff
encourages the father to spend the night with the mother.
At this time,
the baby is moved to the nursery where a caring, skilled staff watches over the
child 24 hours a day. The personalized care provided by the OB staff does not
end with discharge. A Baby Line telephone number can connect new parents with
the nursery to have their questions answered. Breast-feeding counseling can be
provided during your hospital stay.
