According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. The good news is that regular screenings can help detect breast cancer early when most treatable. The American Cancer Society recommends that women aged 40 and older should have a mammogram every year. The Medical Center offers both screening and diagnostic mammograms on site at the hospital by appointment. Screening mammography is used to look for breast disease in women who are asymptomatic; that is, they appear to have no breast problems. Diagnostic mammography is used to evaluate a patient with a breast mass, other breast signs or symptoms, an abnormal or questionable screening mammogram, or augmented or reconstructed breast. The Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology.
