Who are The Medical Center volunteers?

  • Adult men and women of all ages and backgrounds
  • Teenagers (14-17) have a special volunteer summer program (June & July)
  • Volunteers can contribute their time on either a regular or occasional basis
  • Volunteers can be identified by their blue smocks

Why are volunteers so important?

  • Enhance the quality of care given at our hospital
  • Brighten the day and provide companionship for our patients and their family members
  • Provide invaluable staff support services
  • Create a link between the hospital and our community

What basic qualifications are necessary?

  • A caring attitude and an interest in helping others
  • Dependability
  • Commitment to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of our patients
  • The ability to give a minimum 100-hour time commitment within a year

How is a volunteer trained?

  • Regular volunteers are required to complete a formal process that educates them about the hospital environment and policies
  • This process includes an application and background check, interview, drug screen, TB skin test, and orientation
  • After receiving their assignments, volunteers receive departmental training

How is a volunteer rewarded?

  • The satisfaction that comes with helping others
  • Recognition for the hours they serve and the contributions they make includes an appreciation luncheon, Christmas luncheon, and potluck

When are volunteers needed?

  • Schedules are set to meet the needs of volunteers and The Medical Center
  • Most volunteers donate a half day once a week

How do you become a volunteer?

  • Call the Volunteer Services Department at (270) 745-1021 to receive a Volunteer Application or to request more information
